The endometrium is the innermost glandular layer of the uterus and functions as a tissue lining for the uterus. During the menstrual cycle, the endometrium grows to a thick, blood vessel-rich, glandular tissue layer. This represents an optimal environment for the implantation of a pregnancy upon its arrival in the uterus. The normal endometrium has an average thickness of 6-7 mm but commonly may grow thicker in women menstrual problems.

Endometrial Ablation is a procedure most often employed for women who suffer from excessive or prolonged bleeding during their menstrual cycle but cannot or do not wish to undergo other hormone treatments nor a hysterectomy. The procedure is done in office or in the hospital on an outpatient basis.
