Pessary Fitting

With childbearing by vaginal delivery and estrogen deficiency of menopause women may be susceptible to loss of pelvic muscular support and muscle tone with resulting pelvic pressure, uterine prolapse, urinary incontinence and constipation problems. A pessary is a soft donut shaped medical device inserted into the vagina to provide structural support of the uterus, bladder and rectum. The pessary can be placed temporarily or permanently. The pessary must be inserted initially (fitted) by a physician, physician assistant, midwife, or advanced practice nurse during pelvic examination to select the correct shape and size to fit the problem.
